While staying downtown at the Waldorf Astoria Panamá, we decided to walk to Casco Viejo. It seemed there’d be a walking path by (or at least close to) the bay, and we found the Cinta Costera! Whethe…Full review by ScottF1732

We are considering renting bikes and cycling around Cinta Costera. How difficult is it to get on to the walkway? Are there pedestrian crosswalks for walkers and cyclists? And what about getting back to the cycling shop from the other end…is it through a safe area where we can ride without danger of getting run over or mugged?

Hello Jo Ann Panama City is relatively safe. Areas like El Cangrejo has lots of eating establishments and less costly hotels. Check out Toscana Inn, Hampton by Hilton and The Saba along via Argentina. You might also want to consider staying near MultiPlaza (Courtyard by Marriott) or Allbrook Plaza (Wyndham Panama) for convenience. Casco Viejo is a very safe, beautiful and fascinating place to visit but bear in mind that hotels in and around Casco Viejo ranges between mid-range to expensive and noise level in this UNESCO heritage site can get pretty loud on Fridays and Saturdays. If you have not already then you should download Uber app on your phone. Getting around Panama will be at your fingertips and cheaper then a taxi. We enjoyed our three visits to this beautiful city and hope you will too.
Q:
Is it a good place to go for jogging?
A:
Yes, it is a 3 km running path or a perfect 5 km if you loop through Casco Viejo. There is a separate lane for bikes.

Are you asking how much it would cost to do the Cinta Costera in a taxi? You can get around panama city most places for about US$15. A taxi will just take you along the edge of it but on a busy street and you won’t see anything Because of the trees and foliage. Take a taxi to one end of it (central city)and then walk as far as you want. You’ll be walking along the sea wall so you could look out into the bay at the islands. On the city side of you there will be vendors and beautiful plants lots of people walking or biking. If you choose not to walk the full 4 1/2 km hail a taxi to take you down to the other end where fisherman’s market is. Have a wonderful feed of seafood! Somebody mentioned on this site that there weren’t many bathrooms and truthfully we didn’t have to use one but I think they’re right. We didn’t see any. But if you’re in panama you have to do this. You could actually have a cab take you down the Amador causeway when they pick you up on the Costera and bring you back to the fisherman’s market for lunch. Just a 20 minute ride return if you don’t get out. And the taxi ride is not going to be any more than $20 return trip. Ask before you get in the cab and tell them that you’re not gonna pay any more than $20. Actually try $15 first. The costera and the causeway are 26 km return. I did it on bike and it was just amazing. Let me know how you do on your trip
