There are many spots to access the trail. We like entering it via Shamrock Park in Venice since there are many walkers in that area. There are also a lot of bikes - so be sure to stay to the right. Full review by dvkremk
Trail signs state "follow traffic rules." My understanding has always been that bikes are vehicles and have the responsibility to follow established vehicular rules. In this country that means driving on the right. I was also taught that pedestrians should walk facing oncoming traffic, ergo on the left, and that larger, faster vehicles like bikes have the responsibility of yielding to pedestrians without expecting them to jump off the trail. Is there a rule unique to Sarasota County that contradicts this? Everyone seems to be on the right and I find shouts of "on your left," bells or horns can cause a startle response that has me off the trail. As a pedestrian, I feel far more comfortable on the left but I don't care to be yelled at by entitled bikers.

There are no specific rules for walkers or runners on the Legacy Trail. You can walk with bike traffic or against it.
