We drove the 444 mile Parkway over two days. Great experience. This is a two lane road running from Nashville to Natchez. Trailers, buses and semis are not allowed and the speed limit is 45 mph. …Full review by WillieMacfan

This is a nice scenic drive through some lovely scenery in Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. The trace has a lot of history from Lewis and Clark, to the war of 1812 and the trail of tears. There a…Full review by Druci

This historic parkway is a beautiful winding road. We only drove a short distance and would like to return one day to drive through Tennessee, Alabama nd Mississippi. The trace offers hiking trails a…Full review by K I
We are planning a road trip for October. Would like to drive part of the Natchez Trace as an extended drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we would start at the Natchez side Where would be the best area to cut over to head to the Asheville, NC area? Thank you.

The Trace starts and ends in Nashville TN — you could finish the Trace there and then hop on I-40 eastbound toward NC.
Is this safe for a female to drive and do sightseeing on your own? I’d like to do the whole drive from Nashville to Natchez over 2/3 days?

I rode the trace on my motorcycle with my wife last Oct. I'd say at least 85% of the time there wasn't another vehicle in site. Most of the places you stop are right by the road. We left our unsecured bike many times with our helmets setting out and they were fine. You aren't around many cities on the traces so there aren't a lot of people. I've not heard of crime being an issue on the Trace but that doesn't mean something couldn't happen. I'd be far more concerned for you walking around alone at night in some of or bigger cities than on the Trace. Just be aware of your surroundings and I think you'd be fine.
We will be traveling the NT Parkway just before Christmas. Our goal is to leave Nashville and travel to the Lewis/Clark memorial at Grinder's Stand. I get mixed results when researching but it appears to be just over an hour one way, correct? I also cannot find where to catch the Parkway in Nashville, or do we head to NT Parkways Bridge, tho I am not sure where to catch that either. Last questions, is there a Visitors Center open this time of year? If so, is there one outside Nashville? A thank you to all who can help.

You will love the drive! The best landmark for the beginning of the Trace from Nashville is the famous Loveless Cafe, it’s less than a mile from the start of the Trace and the scenic bridge. I highly recommend you eat at the Loveless as well. I do recall Grinders being about an hour down. The first visitors center is about half way to Natchez. Hope this helps!
We are planning on visiting late Jan-early Feb...starting at Nashville...how is the weather then?

Well, quite frankly you have no idea what the weather is going to be like January/February. Snow and ice happens that time of year! And, ice would be a nightmare on the Trace! No community will be salting the Trace! You are totally on your own! I would never expect to have a wonderful experience on the Trace during those months. The fun thing is to be able to stop and have a picnic lunch at an overlook. Also, January/February, we are on CST and it's DARK AT 4:30PM!!! Traveling the Trace in daylight savings time CDT, you aren't driving in PITCH BLACK DARK for 2-3 extra hours. I drove the Trace in the summer and it wasn't dark until 7:30-8:00pm. Listen to me. When I say pitch black dark, I mean pitch black dark!!! There are NO LIGHTS ON THE TRACE, PERIOD! AND, there's very little traffic on the trace in winter! I am a seasoned, careful driver and I was terrified for over an hour or more driving maybe 40 because it was so, so, so dark!! Finally, a turquoise pickup truck appeared in front of me and I followed that marvelous truck's tail lights for over two-three hours until I reached the marvelous city lights of Columbus, Mississippi!!! My strong recommendation would be to get off the trace at dusk and find a room. BTW, at dusk you WILL encounter deer! Go on Amazon and order a device you mount on your front bumper that makes a very high pitched noise that deer do not like and they run away from the road when they hear that sound!! Do yourself a great big favor and plan your Trace experience after daylight savings time happens in April and before Central Standard time in the fall! Just saying!
