Quite easy to get to as long as it is not raining or muddy. There are a few large mud pits at the bottom of the path, recommend wellington boots and maybe a stick if you can. We were fortunate to vis…Full review by M759DMjand
No, there are sheep in the fields up to the cave and nesting birds all around. Depending on which walk you choose to do, there is also cattle about. Not to mention the adders..
Can dogs be let off the lead or are there a lot of livestock about?
A:
Regardless of how well behaved your dog is the country code is dogs should be on a lead at all times where there is livestock, any farmer will tell you this.

Hi, I usually walk from belford, but it easier to find from Swinhoe farm, you can park up just before the farmyard and there is a nice circular walk from there. follow the track marked Holburn and follow, you walk up through some woodland and past swinhoe lakes, then through a gate passed a gorse covered heugh and across the field. at the edge of the field ignore the style and gate in front of you and turn sharp left and walk diagonally across the field, there is a sign pointing the way. up over a low rise through another gate walk down towards some wood land and over the fence, follow the track around to the mouth of the cave. for the return leg i walk back up the hill and diagonally across the field there is a public right of way but no path, follow this back to swinhoe farm, be VERY careful of the cows as they are very aggressive and sometimes i skirt the field to avoid them. sorry it is a brief description but it is from memory as the last time i did the walk was a couple of months ago.
