A day after visiting Cascades Female Factory, we drove to Port Arthur. The conditions, though horrifying, were better for male convicts here than the female convicts at Cascades. The site is easily…Full review by Judith G

A fascinating site full of history and various architecture of several periods. The site is large so the 2 x day ticket is very useful to take your time also some of the terrain can be challenging f…Full review by Sundayx7
Ok you wonderful trip adviser people. I am planning a Tasmania holiday and one portion I want to check. (4 adults 67-73). (3 nights at Eagle Hawk Neck) On a Sunday in January next year, we are driving from Hobart to Eaglehawk neck accommodation. Was thinking on the way, we would drive up to Mt. Wellington (I think its on the way), and then before hitting accommodation, spend the day to go see Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, Devils kitchen water trench, blowhole nearby?, waterfalls bay? (Not sure in what order and not sure if all doable in this time frame). Have I missed anything on that section of the journey within do-able time?) Then the next day, drive to Port Arthur and do the 3 hour Tasman cruise….sounds awesome. Then spend the afternoon at Port Arthur…..(We are going to get a 2 day entry pass). Back to accommodation that night. Then on the last day we would go back to Port Aruther and have a really good look around, entry includes 20 minute harbour cruise, some site talks etc. We were going to go to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, but we are doing a close up encounter at cradle mountain, so I feel we should leave this out. Your thoughts, recommendations, additions and suggestions would be very welcome. Thankyou.

Hi Your trip sounds very good. We (wife and I similar ages to you) a day trip from Hobart to Port Arthur and just drove through Eagle and the nice beaches but did not go into the water, just looked around, spent the afternoon at Port Arthur which was great and then drive back. We did not go to Mount Wellington We spent 6 nights in Tasmania as part of a 63 night self guided trip. We only had 3 nights in Hobart. A highlight was the Cascades Female Factory. Our next night was at Strahan Ormiston House B&B which was awesome. On the way, we stopped at Mount Field National Park and another great stop is the “The Wall at Derwent Bridge” which was fantastic and not to be missed. On the way, we stopped at Zeehan and the mining museum is great. We then went to Cradle Mountain got 2 nights. The “Devils@Cradle Mountain” is not to be missed. The backstage feeding tour is not to be missed. We then went to Wynyard to see the tulips but they only are available for 1 month in Oct Nov. We enjoyed Tasmania and could have spent more time but we felt this about every part of Australia and we were there for 63 nights traveling all over

I didn't see any prams available. There is an open small bus that takes people from one area to another because the site is very spread out. That would be the only available transport we saw. Some of the walkways and steps would be difficult to navigate with a pram. I suggest phoning their booking office/gift shop.
If I buy the ghost tour do I also have access during the day?
A:
NO the ghost tour is a seperate activity. You still have to pay entry for the day and you just wouldn't experience or see enough by just doing the ghost tour. Hope that helps
if i did not want to join the tour , just want to roam the ruins and the grounds, do I need to pay entrance fee?
A:
Yes there is a park entrance fee, but i was dubious about the tour but I would recommend it as their knowledge of the history gives you a great in-site to life back in the day.
