The Washington Commanders are celebrating a legendary figure this November in a move that links the team’s proud past to its promising new era.
Syracuse and NFL great, Art Monk, will have his #81 jersey retired in Washington. A four year letterman with Syracuse, Art Monk went on to have a long and successful career in the NFL, winning three Super Bowls with the then Washington Redskins.
The Washington Commanders said Tuesday they are retiring Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk’s No. 81 this season. Monk is the sixth player in franchise history to get that honor, joining Darrell Green, Sammy Baugh, Bobby Mitchell, Sonny Jurgensen and Sean Taylor.
