Several cold weather shelters are opening in Tampa Bay ahead of a powerful cold front that will drop temperatures across the region. Officials said their program will be activated from Monday night through Tuesday night for the homeless and those who don't have adequate heat as the temperatures are expected to dip to or below 40 degrees with wind chill.

Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet in the coming days. In anticipation of the expected cold spell, Beaufort County announced the opening of two cold-weather shelters.

The Hillsborough County’s cold weather shelters program announced four shelters will open Monday night through Thursday night, Jan. 9. The shelters will accommodate the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat and cannot find other accommodations, Hillsborough County said.
