Dark Ages – an 'exhilarating' prequel

Here comes the Doom Slayer in a new adventure, arriving in The Dark Ages shortly for superfans of the franchise and players on Xbox Game Pass.
The Dark Ages is developed by Bethesda's id Software and is the third game in the newest series that began with 2016's Doom and continued with 2020's Doom Eternal. Although the series is now owned by Microsoft, the company is releasing The Dark Ages on PS5 as part of its new multiplatform release strategy.
After DOOM Eternal took movement to frantic extremes, DOOM: The Dark Ages is designed around having the Slayer stand and fight. It’s very much boots on the ground, and it’s often up close and personal. One way id Software ensures you’re taking frequent blood baths is through Dark Ages’ renewed focus on crushing melee combat.
Doom: The Dark Ages is one of the franchise’s more flawed entries, but it feels fantastic to play all the same.
The new id Tech 8 engine is extraordinary. Digital Foundry goes deep on the new technology id Software has delivered.
Unfortunately, ahead of release, reports and impressions state that DOOM The Dark Ages is a "nightmare" on Steam Deck, even at low settings.
