Alcohol consumption in the U.S. has dropped to a record low as people are increasingly expressing concerns about the associated health risks with moderate alcohol consumption, a new Gallup poll finds.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - A record low number of adults in the United States are consuming less alcohol, according to a new poll. A new poll conducted by Gallup shows the percentage of adults who say they consume alcohol has decreased to 54%, which is the lowest number by 1 percentage point in Gallup’s 90-year trend.

That's driven in part by a steep decline in alcohol consumption among self-identified Republicans. President Donald Trump is famously a teetotaler, citing his brothers' struggles with alcoholism. The number of Republicans who say they drink has plummeted by nearly 20% in just two years.
