Mercedes' George Russell suffered a big crash during second practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix after losing control of his W15.

George Russell was left frustrated by his latest crash in second F1 practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix, conceding “it’s one thing after another at the moment”. With 13 minutes gone in FP2, Russell crashed heavily at Turn 8. Replays showed Russell attacking the kerb at Turn 8 before losing control of his car, spinning off into the barriers.

Several drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, have since called for a panel of permanent stewards to be introduced in a bid to increase consistency. Only time will tell if controversy will reign supreme once more at the Mexican Grand Prix, where Norris will be hoping to exact revenge by claiming victory.

Carlos Sainz topped the times for Ferrari ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in Friday’s crash-hit second free practice at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz ended an extended second practice at the F1 Mexico City Grand Prix with the fastest time as George Russell suffered a heavy crash. The Ferrari driver ended up 0.178 seconds clear of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in FP2, which was extended to 90 minutes to accommodate 2025 tyre testing for Pirelli.

Mercedes later confirmed Russell had been released from the medical centre and was OK. Verstappen complained of an engine problem during Friday’s opening running in Mexico City but Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said between the sessions that the team believed it was a “menial issue”.
