Hundreds of people packed downtown DeLand and The Villages Thursday morning as the first “Good Trouble” protests kicked off.
The protests are part of a nationally organized event timed to mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Rep. John Lewis.
About 100 people gathered Thursday outside Orlando City Hall to protest the policies of the Trump administration as part of the nationwide “Good Trouble Lives On” demonstrations.
"Good Trouble Lives On" protests will be taking place across the country on Thursday, including in Central Florida. Nearly 50 Florida cities are expected to host the national day of action protests in response to "the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration.
The “Good Trouble Lives On” national day of action honors the late congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis. Protests are expected to be held along streets, at courthouses and other public spaces. Organizers are calling for them to be peaceful.

Under the banner of " Good Trouble ," thousands are gathering across the country to protest against the Trump Administration. “We’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy,” reads a statement on the Good Trouble website.
