American flags are back to full-staff at the U.S. Capitol in honor of Donald Trump's inauguration, breaking the U.S. flag code's guidelines for mourning the death of Jimmy Carter

Some U.S. state flags were ordered to be raised during Donald Trump's swearing-in, while others will remain at half-staff for the late Jimmy Carter.

Despite the rule being well known and previously observed, the incoming president was vocally unhappy about the flags flying at half-mast during his inauguration. Trump said the Democrats were "giddy" about the idea of having lower flags during his inauguration.

Flags have flown at half-staff for nearly 30 days following former president Jimmy Carter's death. Here is when flags return to full-staff.

President Biden previously ordered that flags fly at half-staff until Jan. 28 to honor former President Jimmy Carter.

After Carter's death then-President Joe Biden ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days. That period included Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, for Donald Trump. It was something the incoming president was not happy about.
