PAUL - The Minnesota Wild announced on Monday that they have placed defenseman Jared Spurgeon on the Injured Reserve list. Spurgeon, 35, suffered a lower-body injury against the Nashville Predators after Zachary L'Heureux slew-footed him.

General manager Bill Guerin called Spurgeon “week to week” without going into further specifics about the injury other than confirming surgery will not be required.

Even though he is not deemed a "repeat offender" by the NHL, at only 21 years old, L'Heureux has been suspended 11 times at lower levels.

The slew foot is undoubtedly the most dangerous play in hockey and as such, Nashville Predators forward Zachary L'Heureux will be taking some unpaid rest and relaxation time in the coming days. The NHL has issued the Nashville forward a three-game suspension for the nasty play he made on Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon Tuesday night.

Captain Jared Spurgeon has avoided serious injury and will only miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury, Wild hockey boss Bill Guerin told reporters Thursday.

Coach John Hynes called it a “cheap hit” and “undisciplined” play, but didn’t have an official update on Spurgeon after the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety will surely look at the hit, which drew L’Heureux a match penalty. “It didn’t look good,” Hynes said.

Predators' Zach L'Heureux, who had a history of suspensions before reaching the NHL, was suspended for a slew-foot on Wild's Jared Spurgeon.

Another ailment for the Minnesota Wild’s captain. On Thursday, the team announced that defenseman Jared Spurgeon is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

The lower-body injury happened in the second period of the game when Zachary L'Heureux slew-footed Spurgeon into the boards. The captain's right leg went right into the boards and bent backwards. He had to be helped off the ice by his teammates and the training staff.
