A Los Angeles judge has resentenced the Menendez brothers, making them eligible for parole after serving prison time for the shotgun murders of their parents at their Beverly Hills, California, home in 1989.

Nearly three decades after Erik and Lyle Menendez were sentenced to life in prison for the murders of their parents, a California judge has reopened a door many believed would remain closed.

Lyle and Erik Menendez, convicted in 1996 for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty, are now eligible for parole. The brothers, initially sentenced to life without parole, were resentenced due to new evidence of alleged abuse and evolving laws regarding youth offenders.
