A hunter was out looking for deer at a private ranch in West Texas when he spotted something unusual sticking out of the ground: a fossilized mammoth tusk.

The terrain of Texas never ceases to reveal hidden treasures of the past. In fact, just this last December, a West Texas hunter’s day out turned prehistoric when he noticed something peculiar in a dry creek bed.

Turns out, the hunter was right. After Juett reported the find to CBBS, a team of anthropology professors and archaeological researchers came to the ranch and swiftly confirmed the fossil was a mammoth tusk . "When they confirmed what they had uncovered, I couldn't believe it," Juett said.
