Immigration agents arrested roughly 40 immigrants on the Vineyard and Nantucket, sending a wave of fear through the immigrant community that powers the island.

An immigration raid on Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket on Tuesday resulted in 40 arrests, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE said that the people arrested on the Massachusetts islands included a gang member and a sex offender.

ICE officials said some that of the detainees had criminal histories, but did not provide their names or detailed information.
