The format the Big Ten adopted is what the ACC and SEC have run for the past few years. Now both of those conferences abandoned this format and switched to a single elimination tournament, where the lower seeds have to play earlier in the week to fight to play the top seeds later in the week, the same format as the Big Ten uses in basketball.
