Benchmark stock market indices opened higher on Tuesday helped by a rise in heavyweight financial and IT stocks. The S&P BSE Sensex gained 153.24 points to 81,304.51, while the NIfty50 added 36.80 points to 24,817.90 as of 10:10 AM.

The markets experienced a significant downturn on Tuesday as Hyundai Motors' IPO opened at a 1% discount, leading to declines in Indian benchmark indices. The Sensex fell by 931 points (-1.15%), meanwhile the Nifty dropped by 311.

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 73.48 points to close at 81,151.27, while the NSE Nifty50 lost 72.95 points to end at 24,781.10.

Indian equity indices opened on a mixed note, tracking a muted showing on Wall Street overnight and Asian markets on Tuesday morning.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a muted start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,810 level, a premium of nearly 20 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

At the closing bell, Sensex plunged 930.55 points to 80,220.72, while the Nifty fell 309 points to 24,472.10. The sharp decline wiped out nearly Rs 9 lakh crore in the BSE's market capitalisation, leaving many investors reeling.
