A federal judge is expected to rule Friday on whether New York City congestion pricing can start this weekend as scheduled. The MTA's new Manhattan toll plan is set to start Jan. 5, but attorneys representing New Jersey officials say they will ask Judge Leo Gordon to issue a temporary restraining order in a last-ditch attempt to kill it during the afternoon court hearing.

Congestion tolling is scheduled to start on January 5 in NYC, barring any last minute legal challenges. The path to this point has been long and confusing — so drivers have many questions about the MTA’s plan to reduce congestion and raise funds for mass transit improvements.

Certain roads will be fully exempt from the tolls, including the FDR Drive and West Side Highway. In addition, the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, and the roads that connect it to the FDR and West Side, will also be exempt, according to the MTA.
