Nurses at Providence's eight Oregon hospitals approved new contracts on Monday after over six weeks of strike, ending what the state nurses union has described as the largest health care strike in state history.

Nurses who have been on strike for more than 40 days have voted to accept an agreement with Providence Health & Services, the Oregon Nurses Association said.

The strike by nearly 5000 nurses at 8 Providence hospitals around the state of Oregon is over after the union members ratified the tentative deal reached last Friday.

Nurses on strike at all eight Providence hospitals in Oregon approved new labor contracts in a vote tallied Monday, clearing the way for their return to work. The result means that most striking nurses will return to Providence’s hospitals Thursday.

After 46 days on strike, nurses at Providence hospitals across Oregon have approved a deal that will see them return to work.

Oregon's largest hospital system cited the length of the strike in a notice to nurses who've walked out from eight hospitals. The union accused Providence of delaying after members voted down a tentative deal.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Nearly 5,000 nurses represented by the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) at Providence have voted to ratify new contracts, ending a 46-day strike.

"As RNs, we believe that these contracts will lead to greater recruitment and retention of frontline nurses as wages become more aligned with other
