Pope Leo XIV and U.S. Vice President JD Vance have met ahead of a flurry of U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to make progress on a ceasefire in Russia's war Ukraine.

The talks took place as some on the American Right who had clashed with Pope Francis, Leo’s predecessor, seek better ties with the papacy.

Pope Leo will have a private meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy later on Sunday following the pope's inaugural Mass, the Vatican said.
