Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin submitted his resignation following a large-scale investigation into prosecutors obtaining fake disability statuses, which drew criticism from President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Ukraine's prosecutor general, Andriy Kostin, said on Tuesday he had resigned, in the wake of a domestic scandal where dozens of officials are alleged to have abused their position to receive disability status and avoid military service.

Judges and other civil servants are said to have improperly obtained disability certificates, enabling them to earn extra income and, potentially, avoid conscription.

"I am grateful to the president of Ukraine and Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada for their trust. But in this situation, I believe it is right for me to resign from the post of prosecutor general," he said.
