A seismic political shift has taken place in Bolivia. The country’s leftist Movimiento al Socialismo (Mas) party, which has dominated Bolivian politics for nearly 20 years, was voted out of power in a general election on August 17.
In a rebuke of the ruling MAS party, centrist Rodrigo Paz and right-wing former President Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga will face off on October 19.
Rodrigo Paz, who had trailed in the polls, won the first round of the presidential election on Sunday, as decades of dominance by a leftist party neared an end.
