After a chaotic and emotional day, the clean-up effort in Collings Lakes, New Jersey, is just beginning in this community.

The National Weather Service said it would send a team of investigators to Atlantic County to determine whether damages were the result of straight-line winds or the kind that blow in circles. Radar images had indicated that tornado formation was possible, and a tornado warning was posted for the area from about 12:50 to 1:30 p.m.

There was a lot of straight-line wind action that did damage to homes, uprooted trees and downed power lines during the powerful storm that swept Michigan on Thursday night and Friday morning. But the National Weather Service says there were also several weak tornadoes spinning up along the storm’s leading edge.
