Academic activities in seven districts, including South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah, and Kolkata, will be suspended from October 23 to October 26.

Cyclone Dana is intensifying in the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall between Odisha and West Bengal on October 25, bringing wind speeds up to 120 km/h, heavy rainfall, and severe weather.

It said the ICG has mobilised its vessels and aircraft, positioning them strategically to respond swiftly to any emergencies. The NDRF said it has deployed 13 teams so far across south Bengal to respond to any emergency.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the state administration was ready to respond to any disaster that could occur due to an impending cyclone.

Schools have been shut and over 150 trains cancelled as Odisha and West Bengal brace for Cyclone "Dana", which is likely to cross the coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early hours of October 25 with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph.

The depression will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 and cross north Odisha and southern West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early morning hours of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm.
