LOS ANGELES — “American Idol” crowned a season 23 winner live Sunday night on Channel 2. The top three came down to John Foster, Breanna Nix and Jamal Roberts. At the end of the night, Ryan Seacrest announced Roberts from Meridian, Mississippi as the winner. Foster finished second and Nix came in third.
Simpson’s big American Idol comeback was undeniably a bold move after 15 years of not performing on live television. While many criticized it, there’s no denying that others warmly welcomed her return—being both nostalgic and inspiring after everything she has gone through.
The final three singers duked it out for the title of Season 23 winner as Pacific grad Filo returns for another stunning performance.

The singer delivered her first TV performance in 15 years during the season finale of “American Idol” on May 18. She sang her new track “Blame Me,” before teaming with one of this season’s “Idol” contestants, Josh King, on “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” which she recorded in 2005. That song, of course, is a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 hit.
Host Ryan Seacrest said there were 26 million votes cast, which broke a record and was twice as many as for last year's finale.
