Two botanicals, Bunium bulbocastanum and Nigella sativa, are referred to as black cumin. Both are purported to have therapeutic properties, and both are spices.

There is the earth chestnut, Bunium bulbocastanum, “like a pignut, but a worthwhile pignut”. Cirsium heterophyllum with its white flower and leaves has an edible midrib like a cardoon.
