NEW YORK, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Derek van Eck, son of the founder of the New York-based money manager Van Eck Associates Corp, died unexpectedly at age 46, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

He also is survived by his two daughters-in-law, Cynthia van Eck and Deborah S. van Eck; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Derek van Eck. Funeral services were private.
