Heavy rain is falling across the Kansas City area, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for parts of the metro. The weather service issued the warning shortly after 1:10 p.m. Tuesday for southeastern Atchison, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Platte County in Missouri.

Powerful storms and torrential rain are inundating the Heartland – including Kansas, where first responders in Wichita used a boat to save a driver that was surrounded by flood waters inside her car.

It’s not often we get into a flash flood emergency. It is very rare, but it means that we have a lot of roadways that are flooding. A lot of them will have a current to them, and we don’t want people driving.
