The Blue Devils got back to the basics of softball in the opening matchup of the Durham Regional. Being chosen to host gave Duke an opportunity to right the ship and defend their home field, which they successfully did in a comprehensive 12-0 run-rule victory over Howard Friday afternoon.

In the double elimination format, the Texas softball team will try and reach the championship series for the third time in four years.
