The James Webb Space Telescope has discovered an exoplanet using the direct-imaging technique. The host star's light was blocked using a coronagraph to reveal a planet to its right. The light at the star's far left is an unrelated star.

For the first time in its four-year operational history, the James Webb Space Telescope has identified an exoplanet not previously known to astronomers. Known as TWA 7b, the gas giant belongs to a star just 6.4 million years old, making it a prime example of how a planet might look in its youth.
