A Malverne, Long Island street that used to be named Lindner Place in honor of Paul Linder, a Ku Klux Klan leader from New York has now been changed to Acorn Way.

You can read about Long Island’s past in books and on the internet, but recent history is being written on street signs — although it may not show up on maps.

“They can view [the maps] as objects of art, but they also show the different roads that existed then,” Kissam said, highlighting the development of the Long Island Rail Road.
