Five tornadoes touched down Sunday in Cass, Ingham, Kent, and Newaygo counties, the National Weather Service confirmed. The first one, an EF1, started at about 4:52 p.m. in Edwardsburg in Cass County, officials with the weather service's Northern Indiana office said.

Severe weather across Michigan on Sunday knocked out power for thousands and produced five confirmed tornadoes. As of Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed a tornado touched down in Newaygo County east of Grant this Sunday.

Residents in the most severely affected areas are being encouraged not to travel unless necessary and to watch for downed wires and work crews.
