Imgur, the fastest growing image sharing community on the Internet, today unveiled Project GIFV, an initiative to bring the iconic looping video of the GIF into the modern web.

Called Project GIFV, the GIF files uploaded to the service are automatically converted into the MP4 video format, which are smaller individual GIF files, have improved quality, and load faster.
