The archdiocese closed St. Bernadette’s parish elementary school in 2014. The merger of the two parishes was completed last year, with the renaming of the combined parishes to St. Gianna.

In 2022, the Archdiocese of Chicago unified Queen of Martyrs and St. Bernadette Churches to form St. Gianna Parish. Current and former members of St. Bernadette packed the pews for the mass.
