Dan Tana — the professional soccer player turned restaurateur, whose Italian hot spot was beloved by Hollywood stars — has died at age 90. His namesake restaurant, Dan Tana’s, posted about his death on Facebook on Saturday, Aug. 16. His daughter Gabrielle said that he died from cancer at a hospital in Belgrade, Serbia, the New York Times reported.

The onetime professional soccer player opened Dan Tana's restaurant in West Hollywood in 1964, and it soon became a favorite haunt of movie stars and moguls alike.

Dan Tana, born Dobrivoje Tanasijevic, died Saturday in his native Belgrade, Serbia, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page.
