Mercedes’ George Russell sets the pace in a first practice session at the Mexico City Grand Prix punctuated by a heavy crash for Williams’ Alex Albon.

Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he has no concerns over offering up his Mercedes car to Kimi Antonelli for FP1 at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend. His successor at the Brackley-based team crashed George Russell ’s W15 during his debut outing in Monza earlier this year.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion was forced into an early retirement at the Circuit of the Americas, after losing control of his Mercedes on the third lap.

Several drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, have since called for a panel of permanent stewards to be introduced in a bid to increase consistency. Only time will tell if controversy will reign supreme once more at the Mexican Grand Prix, where Norris will be hoping to exact revenge by claiming victory.
