When Zach Edey's baseball career ended, there was no celebration. There was no jersey retirement. He'd been a baseball player his whole life. He was over 7 feet tall, sure, and that meant there were always people trying to recruit him to play a different sport.

Edey missed most of the NBA Summer League with injuries, but he played in all five of the Grizzlies' preseason games. He scored in double figures in three of those games. His best preseason performance came against the Pacers, when he had 23 points and nine rebounds. He played between 18 and 22 minutes in all five games.

Even with Pippen's new deal, the Grizzlies still have an open roster spot to start the season. That means general manager Zach Kleiman has some flexibility.
