The Trump administration plans to rescind the "roadless rule" that impedes logging on 59 million acres of national forests, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says.

The land at stake ranges from the far north's dense coastal forests to Southern California’s great expanses of brush. Experts dispute whether revoking the two-decade-old rule would help prevent wildfires.

The "roadless rule" has prohibited road construction and timber harvesting on over 58 million acres of public land since 2001.
