Family confirmed to 13News the man killed was 65-year-old Mark Vawter, the great-grandfather of two young children who died when a police chase ended in a fiery crash on Feb 5. The children, 3-year-old Ares and his 2-month-old sister, Iris, died after a car slammed into theirs, which burst into flames.

Mark Vawter was shot outside the courthouse after he pulled a gun on a group of inmates targeting the man accused of killing his great-grandchildren.

A man was shot and killed by police Monday outside the Hendricks County Courthouse in Danville after reportedly drawing a gun on deputies. The shooting happened around 1 p.m. after deputies parked a van outside the courthouse while transporting several inmates from jail.
