The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in an NHL Western Conference clash at Ball Arena in Denver on Thursday (Jan. 16) night. Viktor Arvidsson, Evan Bouchard, Brett Kulak and Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers.
The Avalanche lost 4-3 to the Edmonton Oilers at Ball Arena on Thursday. Nathan MacKinnon scored his 16th and 17th goals of the season, Logan O'Connor posted his sixth tally of the year, while Mikko Rantanen, Joel Kiviranta, Calvin de Haan, Jonathan Drouin and Devon Toews each record an assist.

O'Connor has two goals and two assists over his last four outings. The 28-year-old forward opened the scoring Thursday at 5:17 of the first period. His recent offense is nice but unlikely to last in the long run. He's at six goals, eight assists, 57 shots on net, 45 hits, 17 PIM and a minus-7 rating through 46 appearances this season.
It doesn’t matter if the Edmonton Oilers are 3-0 down, they’re the best darn team in the world. On Thursday, the Oilers played the second game of a back-to-back, defeating the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 after storming back from a serious deficit.
There have been a lot of Edmonton Oilers games over the years in which they’ve trailed 3-0 in the first period — 102, to be exact. Those games have rarely gone well for the team in the past, and understandably so.
O'Connor logged an assist, three shots on goal, four hits and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers. O'Connor has three points over his last three outings. The 28-year-old had the secondary assist on Devon Toews' game-winning tally in overtime.
