PORTLAND (WGME) – A Democratic state lawmaker is proposing a tax on smokers to help fund a medical school in Maine. Democratic State Senator Joe Baldacci (D-Bangor) put out a bill last month that would add a $1 tax to each pack of cigarettes to pay for a medical school at the University of Maine in Orono.
