This experience reminded me that back during CES 2020, Dell showed off its concept Alienware handheld, known as Project UFO (two years before the Steam Deck 's majorly successful launch in 2022).

That's not to say we won't see an Alienware handheld gaming PC eventually. It's more that Dell will want to offer a balanced device without glaring caveats.

Of course, the Alienware UFO never got off the ground. Eighteen months went by without any updates on its existence, and three and a half years after CES 2020, the Asus ROG Ally launched in June 2023.

But the first major PC maker to tease a handheld was Dell, which demonstrated an Alienware Concept UFO device during CES 2020 – two years before the Steam Deck launched.

Dell’s Alienware brand showed off its UFO concept three years ago, and we’d love to see it resurface. But you can’t forget all the minor players as well.

This, of course, allows the UFO to be played either as handheld system or docked as a full-on gaming PC in your home. All that should sound familiar, though you’d never mistake the UFO for a Switch.
