Residents have installed 130 bat boxes on homes and garages on the Abbey Estate in Thetford, Norfolk, in an attempt to use planning laws to delay a proposed £250 million redevelopment.

The new kiln would be constructed outside the main development boundary and include 26 bat boxes of various types, to accommodate different species.

More boxes have been installed in the areas earmarked for the first phase of redevelopment Regeneration director James Payne also said the company had its own plans to install bat boxes on the estate.
