Eureka is expected to get up to $140,000 to replace about 15 units. When James started with the department decades ago, the units cost about $2,000 each. Now, they are $7,000 a piece.

The historical society's inaugural Eureka Holiday Home Tour will be held from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Four homes and two public buildings, each a historic structure, are on the tour.
