In a heartwarming display, Indian and Chinese troops exchanged sweets at several border points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Diwali, marking a significant thaw in Sino-Indian ties.

“Troops of India and China exchanged sweets at several border points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the occasion of Diwali on Thursday (October 31, 2024),” Army sources said.

The customary exchange of sweets comes a day after tje Indian Army and Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) completed the disengagement process at Depsang and Demchok areas of eastern Ladakh.

An Indian army official who was not authorised to speak to journalists confirmed that “sweets were exchanged between troops of India and China at several border points on the occasion of Diwali”.

In December 2022, Indian and Chinese troops had clashed in the Yangtse area. The post in this area is at 17,000 feet and overlooks the Chinese position, giving the Indian side an advantage.
