DOWAGIAC, MI -- A Native American tribal council is urging a Michigan school district to stop using the “Chieftain” logo, saying it perpetuates harmful stereotypes of Indigenous people.

The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Board of Education on Tuesday voted 6-1 to retire Canton High School’s “Chief” mascot and logo despite pushback from the community.
