During all of this, Moana tragically dies — but she’s visited by the ghosts of her ancestors, who turn her into a demigod. Her paddle becomes embroidered with magic, just like Maui’s hook.

Dozens of people gathered for a paddle out at a surf spot known as Ala Moana Bowls for 30-year-old Kailon Tyndzik. Organizers also held a paddle out at Kealia Beach on Kauai's east side.
