The A&E department at Lewisham Hospital is to be downgraded after a neighbouring trust ran up debts of £150m.

Mr Hunt’s bid to downgrade Lewisham came as part of a package to solve the financial problems of the neighbouring South London Healthcare Trust (SLHT), which was losing more than £1million a week.
