Mountain Empire Community College has received a $1.7 million U.S. Department of Education TRIO grant to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in completing a college degree.

Laura Treanor will lead Virginia Western Community College starting July 1, succeeding longtime president Robert Sandel after a nationwide search.
